Heat transfer elements HTE
Characteristics
For diagnostic purposes ion beams are shot directly to beam dumps. The components shown are called Heat Transfer Elements (HTE) and form a water cooled beam dump surface. 240 of the shown Heat Transfer Elements are used in SST-1 in Institute for Plasma Research, Ahmedabad, India. They are made from CuCrZr by EB welding, He-leak rate is smaller than 10-9 mbarl/sec and they are operated with a cooling water pressure of approx. 15 bar. The HTE’s have to absorb up to 1 kW/cm2 in a steady state operation, peak load can be more than 2 kW/cm2 in a 15-20 sec pulse
