The Crystal Growing Systems Division

Crystal Growing Systems GmbH (CGS) in Asslar is one part of the division for manufacturing crystal growing equipment within the PVA TePla Group and was established in August 1999 in Hanau emerging from the crystal growing division of Leybold Systems GmbH.

For decades CGS has been designing and producing crystal growing equipment for the production of silicon crystals, and as a technologically leading producer CGS is one of the most important in its field worldwide.

PVA Tepla Danmark in Frederikssund is another part of the crystal growing systems division within the PVA TePla Group since May 2004. It has emerged from the former floatzone division of Haldor Topsoe A/S.

The floatzone technology of PVA Tepla Danmark was developped over decades as a special method of growing ulta-pure and oxygen-free silicon crystals for power electronics applications.

Core business in crystal pulling equipment for wafer manufacturers

Extremely pure silicon rods with perfect structure are the starting point for a long value-added chain, without which our world of micro- and optoelectronics, power electronics, information and communication technologies, and photovoltaics would no longer be conceivable. Rods of this kind are processed to make wafers, the basic material in the semiconductor industry for manufacturing chips and devices.

To produce silicon rods meeting such high quality specifications, it is necessary to have reliable crystal pulling equipment featuring sophisticated process technology and a high degree of automation, such as those designed and built by CGS and PVA TePla Danmark for its customers for decades now.

Demand for solar silicon continues to rise

Silicon in extremely pure form and with perfect structure is also becoming more and more important for the photovoltaics industry – a field in which global production capacities for modules is currently being ramped up. Thanks to a variety of government support programmes, Germany is among the leading nations in this growth market of tomorrow.
