(Asslar, 24 July 2006) – Crystal Growing Systems (CGS) GmbH, Asslar, a
wholly-owned subsidiary of PVA TePla AG, Asslar, concluded a letter of
intent on the supply of crystal growing systems with Siltronic AG, Munich,
a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wacker Chemie AG, in the amount of around EUR
60 million on 24 July 2006.
The EKZ 3000/450 systems will be used to produce 300mm wafers for the
semiconductor market in a joint venture between Siltronic AG and Samsung
Electronics Co, Ltd., Singapore. With this system type, CGS GmbH is
supporting the technological shift from 200mm to 300mm wafers within the
semiconductor industry. The EKZ 3000 was developed in cooperation with
Siltronic as part of a government-sponsored project and represents the
state of the art in the area of silicon crystal growth.
The crystal growing systems will be delivered to the joint venture in the
course of 2007 and 2008, and will form the first development phase in the
new production of 300mm wafers. The final agreement between CGS GmbH and
Siltronic AG will be concluded by 30 September 2006.
Dr. Andreas Mühe, Managing Director of CGS GmbH and head of the Crystal
Growing division of PVA TePla AG, will leave the Company at the end of
August 2006 and become the head of the “Crystal Centre” at Siltronic AG.
